Dusty Robotics for
General Contractors
Reduce risk and compress schedules with robotic multi-trade layout.
While buildings today are modeled digitally in software, they are laid out manually using measuring and marking devices. Manual work introduces the possibility of errors in a project, which create schedule delays and cost overruns. General contractors haven’t had a better option, until now. Dusty Robotics’ BIM-to-field automation brings digital building models directly onto the job site surface, ensuring that the correct design gets built the first time correctly.
With Dusty Robotics FieldPrinter, layout is printed for one or multiple trades in a fraction of the time of manual layout, resulting in significant schedule compression and the opportunity to turn over the building faster. Moreover, since all trades’ layout can be printed in a single pass, communication is significantly improved, conflicts in the field are resolved quickly and installation can commence almost immediately.

Three Ways to Reduce Risk
with Robotic Layout
Risk is bad for business, and manual construction layout adds unnecessary risk to your construction project. When manual layout was the only option, there was no choice but to take on this risk. That’s changed. With BIM-to-field robotic layout, there’s a better option in the industry.
Dusty Robotics FieldPrinter significantly reduces construction risk by automating layout for all trades. Using the coordinated BIM model, the FieldPrinter prints directly onto the construction site surface 10x faster than manual layout with 100% accuracy and more information than traditional layout. With Dusty, potential conflicts can be identified earlier in the process, while detailed layout instructions enable installation to be completed correctly the first time.
The Dusty FieldPrinter reduces risk in construction by improving accuracy, communication, and speed.
Optimize Collaboration
Between Trades
Rework is costly and delays schedules, but when conflicts are notidentified until installation, it’s inevitable. With separate layoutschedules, disparate data, and profits at stake, collaboration acrosstrades is challenging. Dusty Robotics FieldPrinter automates multi-tradelayout, enabling trades to work together from the beginning. Workersfrom each trade can walk the floor together to identify potential errors, collaborating to improve the layout, instead of assigning blame.

collaboration between different
systems, different trade teams, using
one platform through the robot”
Build Directly
Off of BIM
Many builders use BIM to create sophisticated digital models of the
building designs, but with manual layout, mistakes are frequent, and
often the bare minimum of information makes its way onto the site.
With Dusty’s BIM-driven robotic layout, your team maximizes its
investment in BIM, bringing full details from the coordinated model
directly to the construction site surface.
“Dusty is going to be a game changer.
It's bringing back what was designed
on the slab quickly, efficiently,
and accurately."
Compress Construction
Schedules
Traditionally, layout consumes several weeks on the construction schedule, allowing time for each trade to mark its measurements
manually. Dusty Robotics FieldPrinter printing multi-trade layout in a single pass compresses weeks of work into mere days.
“With Dusty, we’re not only getting 100% accuracy but
getting 4-5x improvement in just the layout speed.”
Robotic Layout
FAQs
A: Layout robots automate the process of transferring digital models (BIM or CAD files) out to the field in full size on the floor of the construction site. They are generally used by layout crews who would otherwise be manually marking layout on the floor, either using measuring tape and chalk lines, or with total stations.
A: Multi-trade layout is the process of printing multiple trades’ layout using a layout robot to complete coordinated layout in a fraction of the time as traditional methods. Multi-trade layout incorporates multiple CAD or BIM files, from each of the different trades, and combines them together to be printed in a single pass over the floor. Robotic multi-trade layout gives significant schedule compression and enables installation to commence almost immediately.
