Clear Contract Language Makes Multi-Trade Layout Work
Multi-Trade Layout Contract Templates: Put the Workflow in Writing
Multi-Trade Layout changes when and how layout gets performed. But done right, it doesn’t change who’s accountable or redistribute risk. These two templates put it in writing: The Multi-Trade Layout Addendum is a subcontract exhibit you execute at buyout, and it assigns every party’s roles and responsibilities. The Layout Execution Plan is the plan of record your team issues at kickoff. Download both, and give the entire team the clarity, alignment, and confidence they need to pursue Multi-Trade Layout on your next project.
These template documents help you:
- Assign every role in the workflow with clarity. Define all the key roles in Multi-Trade Layout and name the party fulfilling each. These templates give you the flexibility to assign roles to the general contractor, a participating trade, or a third party, so you can pursue the approach that’s right for your project.
- Keep accountability where it belongs. It's bad for everybody if one party ends up responsible for another party's layout being right. The Addendum gives you simple language that keeps responsibility for correct layout with the trade performing that scope of work.
- Work with the subcontract you already have. Don’t rewrite your form contracts. The Multi-Trade Layout Addendum integrates with your existing subcontract and only supersedes the clause(s) that speak to conventional layout responsibilities.
- Protect everyone, fairly. Multi-Trade Layout is a team effort. Make it contractually clear that if a trade or the GC doesn’t play their part, everybody else will be protected.
- Capture project commitments in one plan. The Layout Execution Plan provides fill-in-the-blank sections for layout scope, designated layers, the shared coordinate reference, key dates, and more. Keep the team aligned, informed, and productive.
